Job experience is exactly as it sounds. It is a list of how many jobs that
you have had and what kind of experience that you have gotten out of it.
How is job experience helpful?
Job experience is helpful because when you are looking for a new job your potential
employer can see what you have done in the past. While job experience is helpful
in determining what experience you have, too much experience is a bad sign to
employers. It means that you have had many different jobs and an employer may
not want to hire someone who changes jobs regularly.
Is too little job experience better than too much?
Not really, too little experience may mean that you may not have what it takes
to do the job at hand because your experience doesn't match the job.
What experience should I list on my resume?
Potential employers do not like to read a long resume, so if you have had say
10 jobs in the last 5 years only list the last 5, if you have held one job for
the past 6 years, just put that one job but make sure that you put the dates
worked so the employer can see that you can hold a job.
Should I embellish my experience in order to get the job I want?
No, never ever embellish your experience. The employer may think that you have
certain skills and you really don't. They may hire you based on that experience
and when they find that you don't have the experience, they will let you
go.
Can I be over qualified for a job?
Yes, but that does not mean that you won't get the job anyway. Some employers
are afraid to hire over qualified applicants because they are afraid they will
ask for more money. Make that clear in the interview that you are willing to
accept whatever pay they are offering.
