An apartment is a self contained unit that is housed in a building or a house. Apartments may either be rented or owned. Depending on what type of apartment it is you would become the renter or the owner. Apartments have different names depending on where you live. In England they are called flats or co-ops or condos.

Most apartment are found in the classifieds ads in the newspaper. If you like an ad then contact the person in the ad, it may be a home owner or a real estate agent. Then you would take a look at the apartment and depending on how the landlord decides to rent either on first come first serve or a background check, they will notify you and if all works out you talk about the rent and sign either a year lease or a month to month lease.

What are the different types of apartments?

There are many different apartments out there waiting to be owned or rented. There is the Studio apartment, this type of apartment is a small apartment that consist of a bathroom and a bedroom, kitchen and living room space combined. Then there are the one, two or three bedroom apartments. These apartments have separate bedrooms, a separate kitchen and a separate living room. Some apartments are furnished with furniture and others are unfurnished with appliances the furniture comes with the renter.

What is a sublet apartment

Some leases allow for their renters to sublet their apartments. This is when a renter may be out of town for a long period of time or they may have another apartment. So to make up for the rent on that apartment, the place an add for a sublet. It is basically renting within renting. The person who you rented from their name is on the lease and the sublet just rents the apartment and pays the original renter the rent each month.
