Landlord-tenant court is court that allows landlord and tenants a place to sue each other for any grievances they may against each other. Every country has one, if you are a landlord or a tenant and you need a matter settled such as nonpayment of rent, no heat, no water or eviction then you can settle all that in landlord tenant court.

Can I sue my landlord if they do not perform their duties?

If in you lease it indicates that the landlord will be responsible for all repairs not made by the tenant and he does not abide by the lease then yes you can take them to court.

What are the landlord's responsibilities and a tenants rights?

A landlord must provide a clean apartment upon renting it, they must provide a clean common areas if you live in an apartment building such as hallways, stairs and the yards. A landlord must also provide appliances that work as well as hot and cold running water. A landlord must provide heat in the winter.

A landlord can sue for eviction for nonpayment of rent, expiration of the old lease and the non renewal of the lease and if the tenant is a nuisance or performing illegal acts in the apartment.

If I get evicted can I sue for my security deposit back?

If you have lived by the lease and go evicted for any reason except for nonpayment of rent and the apartment is in good condition then yes you can sue for the deposit back. But if you owe for back rent then no, you are not entitled to the security back at all.

Yes, a landlord no matter how much they want you out of an apartment cannot change your locks or cut off your water, heat or electricity. They must take you to court and proceed with the eviction the legal way.
